History

Goulburn Valley Automatics was founded by John and Jenny Dempster in 1977. Prior to the commencement of business John was repairing Automatic Transmissions from the rear shed of the family home while completing his trade certificate. From the first workshop located at Benalla Road, Shepparton the business soon expanded and moved into a larger workshop in Mitchell Street Shepparton in 1982.

From here the business solely worked on Automatic Transmissions including servicing and overhauls. At any time the business employed up to 10 staff including 4 Specialist Transmission Rebuilders. During this time Goulburn Valley Automatics became affiliated with ATRA (Australian Transmission Rebuilders Association).

John along with staff members would attend Atra Transmission Seminars to keep up to date with changing technologies in Automatic Transmissions. Due to further expansion of the business in 1991 a new much larger factory was purchased at our current location of 12 Mercury Drive Shepparton. It was in this year 1991 that John & Jenny’s son Steven commenced his apprenticeship.

After 4 years and becoming a qualified mechanic Steven was rebuilding all types of Automatic Transmissions. In 2005 Steven and Kellie Dempster purchased the business from his parents John and Jenny. After some new energy was injected into the business GV Automatics also branched out to different areas of mechanical repair and through hiring of new mechanics and purchasing new equipment today GV Automatics provides their customers with all types of general Repairs and servicing.

Having the workshop run smoothly with the right staff meant Steven could focus on Repairs and Rebuilds to Automatic Transmissions. Today GV Automatics continues to embrace the changing technologies and remains the largest Transmission repair business within the Goulburn Valley with all repairs to transmissions done in house at their factory in Shepparton.
